50m away from the Hotel Kolbe is the Imperial Roman Forum – the heart of ancient Rome and arguably the most important archaeological site in the world, featuring pagan and Christian temples, monuments and public buildings between 1,500 and 2,500 years old.

Particular places of interest are the temple of Julius Caesar – built on the spot where he was publically cremated by a rioting and adulating mob of bereft citizens; the alleged tomb of the foster father of Romulus, the legendary founder of Rome and illegitimate son of a pagan god; and the triumphal arches of Emperors Septimus Severus and Titan – two of only five left in the world.

Casting its awesome shadow over the forum area, is the unmistakable shape of the Colosseum, completed in 80 AD by the Emperor Titus and officially one of the seven man-made wonders of the world. This enormous amphitheatre is still one of the world’s most awe-inspiring sights to behold today and no trip to Rome is complete without a visit.

Just 100m away from Hotel Kolbe Rome is the historic Circus Maximus. This is where ancient games, entertainment and chariot races were staged - made famous on the big screen by the Charlton Heston film Ben Hur. The site is still used today to stage concerts.

200m away is the Mouth of Truth where legend has it that if you put your hand in the mouth and told a lie it would be bitten off! All other modern and ancient parts of Rome including Piazza Navona, the Spanish Steps, The Trevi Fountain, St. Peter’s and many more are easily accessible on foot or by metro.
